Large grade

Large Coco Husk Chips (4–16 mm)

Our coarsest chip range: chunky husk cubes that build open, fast-draining structures with large pore spaces for orchids, aroids, and coarse blends.

Structure and character

  • Cut from coconut husk into a nominal 4–16 mm particle range
  • The largest chips dominate the structure, creating big macropores between particles
  • Free-draining with strong air movement around roots
  • Individual chips hold some moisture internally while the profile stays open

Typical application directions

These are directions buyers commonly take this grade, not guaranteed prescriptions. The correct grade always depends on crop, container, irrigation, climate, blend composition, and your own requirements.

Considerations before you specify

  • Coarse chips drain quickly, so irrigation frequency and water quality should match an open structure.
  • In small pots, large chips can leave too much empty volume; the small or medium grade may serve better.
  • For reptile bedding, particle size and preparation requirements depend on the species and the standards of your market; confirm them before specifying.

What to specify when requesting a quotation

  1. Product format: compressed 5 kg block or loose
  2. Acceptable share of smaller particles and fiber
  3. Moisture requirement at loading
  4. Washing or buffering requirement, if any
  5. Order quantity and destination port

Frequently asked questions

Is the 4–16 mm grade the standard choice for orchids?

Coarse chips are widely used for orchids because of the open structure they create, and 4–16 mm is our coarsest range. Final suitability still depends on the orchid genus, pot type, climate, and watering practice, and many growers also blend chip sizes to tune moisture behavior.

Can large chips be used as mulch?

Yes, coarse coco husk chips are used as a surface mulch in landscaping and container displays. For mulch orders, chip appearance and the share of fines are usually the parameters to specify.

Do compressed blocks change the chip structure?

Compression packs the chips tightly for transport; the blocks are loosened or hydrated before use. Discuss your handling process with us so the format matches how you plan to prepare the material. Actual expansion and preparation should be confirmed from the product specification.
