Coco Husk Chips in Hydroponic & Greenhouse Media

Modern greenhouse crops run on engineered coir profiles. The chip fraction inside those profiles controls drainage, aeration, and how the root zone rewets between irrigation cycles.

Soilless greenhouse production of tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, strawberries, and cut flowers commonly grows on coir-based media dosed by drip irrigation. Media designers rarely use fine cocopeat alone: they specify a share of husk chips to hold drainage channels open, stabilize the air-to-water ratio, and stop slabs and bags from slumping over a long crop.

The chip percentage and grade are levers the media producer uses to tune the profile: more or coarser chips for a drier, airier root zone and faster drain-off; fewer or finer chips where more buffering is wanted. That is why hydroponic media manufacturers buy chips as a separate screened input rather than accepting whatever particle mix comes out of a husk mill.

We supply that input to growing-media manufacturers and greenhouse suppliers: coco husk chips screened to 4–8, 4–12, or 4–16 mm, compressed or loose.

Format and packing

Media factories typically import compressed 5 kg blocks for freight density and feed them through loosening lines before blending. Loose chips can be discussed for regional buyers. Packing volumes and preparation behavior should be confirmed from the specification at quotation.

Worth knowing before you order

  • Hydroponic programs are sensitive to salinity, so raise EC requirements and any washing or buffering needs in your inquiry so they can be confirmed per order.
  • Chip share and grade interact with dripper rates, substrate volume, and climate; media designers should trial profiles under their own regime.
  • If chips will be blended into slabs or bags on your line, tell us your intake format so packing can be matched to it.

Do you sell ready-made slabs or growbags?

Can you meet a low-EC specification?

EC, washing, and buffering requirements are exactly the parameters to put in your inquiry. We confirm what can be supplied against your specification per order instead of publishing generic numbers.

Which grade drains fastest?

Coarser ranges create larger pores and freer drainage; 4–16 mm is the most open of our grades. How that behaves in your profile depends on the cocopeat base and compression, so trials under your irrigation regime are the reliable test.
